It’s Friday the 13th, and what better way to celebrate than another agonizing list counting down 13 frightening favorites! This time we’re covering some of my personal favorite twisted tracks that showed up on horror movie soundtracks over the years. Some of them fit the film like a Freddy glove, while others leave you pondering why they appeared aside from monetary motivation. Either way, they are a gateway to some pretty great compilations of heavy and horrific music that is surely worth checking out.

Motorhead

Hellraiser

Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth

Aside from being a total badass track, the music video is even better, as we witness Pinhead go up against his greatest foe to date.

Slayer

Bloodline

Dracula 2000

A fitting track for a movie that centers around a main character who can’t seem to get his fill for that delicious red thirst quenching nectar of the undead.

Dokken

Dream Warriors

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

A classic from my childhood where I must have watched the music video just as much as the movie it promoted.

Type O Negative

(We Were) Electrocute

Freddy vs Jason

As with many of these entries, it’s a mystery how and why this track ended up on the Freddy vs Jason soundtrack, but I’ll never turn down a chance to listen to Type O!

Meshuggah

Rational Gaze

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

A fitting track for a movie about a chainsaw wielding maniac with guitars that sound just like chainsaws ripping through flesh.

Static-X

Anything But This

Resident Evil

While I can’t say much for the movie, I can say that the soundtrack was quite a banger when it came out thanks to tracks like this.

Page Hamilton

Throwing Punches

Underworld

A heavy hitter from yet another great soundtrack the early 2000s spewed out during its horror heyday.

Melvins

Instant Larry

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight

From one of the more underrated horror soundtracks that tends to get lost in its own age, but certainly worth a listen.

Pantera

Where You Come From

Strangeland

Songs like this had me head banging to the soundtrack, while the movie had me banging my head against a wall in utter confusion.

Deftones

Change (In The House Of Flies)

Queen of the Damned

I can’t listen to this song anymore due to it being massively overplayed, which speaks to its popularity back when it first debuted.

Ihsahn

Introspection

Deathgasm

A rare case where the soundtrack is just as great as the movie it serves. Definitely worth your time if you’re a black metal fan.

Lääz Rockit

Leatherface

Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III

I remember finding this soundtrack on cassette for a dollar long long ago, and it’s almost worth every penny.

Alice Cooper

He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask)

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives

If the intro to this track doesn’t get you moving, you must be just as soulless as Jason Voorhees himself.
